AKA the Cal-Ace Tomato. A relative of Ace tomatoes, Cal Ace tomatoes have been an heirloom favorite grown since the early 70s. This variety is heat tolerant. It tends to be a bit earlier maturing, has thicker walls, and exhibits better disease resistance that the original Ace. Another positive trait is its ability to set fruit (pollinate) in warmer weather, where other varieties might drop their blossoms.
The fruits are oblate-shaped, smooth skinned, ripen uniformly, are meaty, and sweet. Although developed as a variety for production farms, it is also an excellent choice for smaller market growers and home gardeners. We often raise this one in our family's "kitchen garden" and enjoy it from early mid-season until the first frost takes them. Nothing like garden fresh tomato sandwiches in October!
